Five Dock hot water repair

Five Dock in hot water
A broken hot water system is a disaster in any household, so if yours breaks down you want to get it fixed as fast as possible. If you live in Five Dock, this can be done by engaging the help of a professional Five Dock electrician. Hot water is vital for showering, bathing, doing the dishes, cleaning, and other tasks around the home so if your hot water system breaks down, it can cause great inconvenience. Get it repaired as quickly as possible by calling a Sydney hot water repair expert. All makes and models can be repaired or replaced in the worst case scenario.

There are several things that can go wrong with a hot water system such as leakages, damaged elements, thermostat problems, and a loss of pressure, just to name a few. The repairer will perform a thorough diagnostic in order to isolate the problem and determine what is needed for repair. They will discuss this with you as well as outlining all of the associated costs. Ensure that your repairer provides a warranty or guarantee on the work that they undertake.

I received a late night call a few weeks ago from Caleb who lived in a Five Dock apartment and needed a Five Dock electrician.  He asked if I was available to come out to check his hot water system as it seemed to have sprung a leak.  I arrived at the property a little after midnight and went to the apartment.  Caleb answered the door and I could immediately tell that it was a little more than a “small” leak.  The entire tiled area and the carpet was flooded and it was like a sauna with the amount of steam in the room.  I turned the water off and the power from the switchboard to make sure that everyone was safe with no risk of being electrocuted.  I then helped Caleb mop up some of the water and he asked about the likelihood of the hot water system being fixable.

After having a good look at the hot water system which was located under the kitchen bench, I was not able to deliver good news.  The tank had completely ruptured and Caleb was going to need a new hot water system.  The neighbour from downstairs had now also turned up at the front door because her kitchen had flooded.  I got busy fixing everything up that I could so that Caleb’s apartment would be liveable until the new hot water system arrived and Caleb and his neighbour set about making arrangements to contact the body corporate building insurance for the water damage. I returned a few days later to install the new hot water system and the water damage crew were there vacuuming the water and drying the carpet.

It is important to remember that if you have an internal hot water system that is leaking, turn the power off at the meter box for the hot water system (it is generally on its own circuit) and then turn the tap off to the system to stop the supply of water.  Be mindful of any other electrical items that may be in the area such as TV’s, radios, refrigerators etc and turn them off and unplug at the wall if necessary. If any water has leaked, ensure that the area is dry prior to turning the other appliances back on.  If you need a replacement hot water system or a repair on a hot water system, call the Sydney Local Electricians team on 0415 11 66 22 or contact us

Bondi electrician - Lighting up a Bondi garden

When you spend time outdoors with family and friends, you’ll need adequate outdoor lighting to illuminate your landscape areas. Whether you’re sitting outside on a deck or patio or you wish to place a spotlight on a specific area of your yard, outdoor lighting can serve these purposes.

I went out to a Bondi electrician job recently where Amelia wanted a quote to have a stunning light display installed into her back yard.  It was only a small space and Amelia had just finished completing the renovations to the beach house.   I arrived the next day to the Watson Street property and she showed me the back yard which was filled with driftwood and palm trees and very impressive.  Amelia wanted general guide lights on the pathway for safety and then a number of spotlights to focus on various display pieces in the garden including an old wooden boat, some fishing nets and a buoy.  I provided Amelia with the quote and she asked when I could come to do the job, so it was booked for a few days’ time.

You have a variety of options as you choose outdoor lighting designs and it’s important to consider what you need and how you will use the lighting to ensure that you choose lighting with the features you need. With many benefits of functional outdoor lighting, find the lighting fixtures that will add beauty, function and safety to your outdoor areas.  Outdoor lighting can add safety in a variety of ways. Light walkways to ensure that people navigate these areas safely. Use zone lighting to illuminate areas of your yard and landscape for night time use. Zone lighting can be effective for lighting a patio, deck, garden, pool area or outdoor seating area. Illuminate sidewalks, driveways, garages and entryways to keep your landscape safe after dark.

A well-lit landscape and yard presents a feeling of security and maintenance. When you keep your outdoor areas illuminated, you present a feeling of care and involvement. When people view your well-lit yard, they often interpret your property as cared-for and well maintained. This can discourage trespassing and theft.  Extend your living areas by lighting your outdoor landscape. If you have a deck or patio with seating, add comfortable and attractive lighting to enable you to use these areas after dark. Showcase and highlight specific areas of your landscape with decorative lighting. By installing up lights around your landscape in various spots, you pull the eye to these areas and display them attractively.

Landscape lighting is an effective way to display planting areas or flower gardens. Install mood lighting along outdoor buildings to add pleasant splashes of light in your landscape. You can even add low-voltage exterior lights to trees and shrubs outdoors to illuminate planting areas and add beautiful accents to your exterior areas.  A well-lit home presents a cared-for impression to the entire neighbourhood.

Your house will appear warm and inviting as it sits quietly on your property. In contrast to a dark and drab home, your illuminated home will draw people in and offer a warm refuge for family and friends.  For all of your outdoor lighting needs, contact the expert Bondi electrician team at Sydney Local Electricians on

Burwood electrician - Emergency electrician needed after a DIY failure

At the moment, our televisions seem to be flooded with renovation and DIY programs that make home renovations seem so simple. Let’s face it - painting, tiling, gardening and basic carpentry are all within our skill sets and most of us can learn the basics of these skills by watching instructional videos or by watching others perform the task. Electrical work on the other hand most definitely is not a job for the home handyman.

Electrical installation and repair work can only legally be undertaken by a licensed electrical contractor. To do-it-yourself or have a semi-qualified person do it for you, is exposing yourself to a long list of legal and safety issues. At the most extreme end of the spectrum, in the event of an injury or death resulting from illegally installed wiring, you could be criminally liable and face sanctions up to and including jail. If there is damage to property such as a fire, your home insurance would in all likelihood be null and void.

There have been so many times I have walked into a home to have the man of the house sheepishly tell me he was “trying to have a go“, and now nothing is working or the fuse keeps blowing. Unfortunately, it’s almost always accompanied by a wife fuming in the background with an “I told you so look” on their face plus a teenager or two in complete desperation, waiting for the power to be restored so they can plug back into Facebook or the Xbox.

I was recently called by Amanda who was quite upset at the fact that her husband had attempted to install a new power point into the garage in order to have another outlet to plug in some of his power tools. Amanda told me that they had been without power now for about two hours and her husband George had tried everything to fix the cause of the problem. I was the Burwood electrician they decided to call in just the nick of time as they were advised that any other electrician Sydney had available could have taken hours!

I cringed upon hearing this as all I could think about was the imminent danger that comes with attempting DIY electrical work. The really terrible thing is that most people are unaware that it is illegal. I told Amanda to advise George not to do any more work and that I would be at their Burwood home in the next hour. I arrived at the Livingstone Street home and headed straight for the garage where I found both Amanda and George as well as a multitude of tools and wiring. George was apologising profusely for getting me to come out for something so simple, but I told him it was absolutely no problem and that I would have it sorted in no time.

Turns out that the safety switch in the meter box kept tripping because George had allowed wires to touch when he was installing the power point causing a short circuit. I fixed all of the wiring and reset the safety switch and everything was back to normal. I reminded both Amanda and George that if they ever needed any other electrical work done to please give me a call.

So apart from the risk to life, property, and bank balance – doing your own electrical work can be devastating to your family life. So don’t risk it - use a licensed electrical contractor and call a Burwood electrician at Sydney Local Electricians on 0415 11 66 22 and we will be there to help.
